9A: testing the hypothesis pt 2

9A: testing they hypothesis pt 2
During my interviews, I was better able to recognize why my target market is. When I first approached the issue of inconvenient long boarding on campus, I thought more people would be interested in racks to put the boards. However, in all five of my interviews, I learned that people are only minimally bothered by this, and there is a bigger priority to get permission to skate in the biking lane from campus police. However, an issue this minute, slips through the cracks of student government, and is never communicated.

  • Who: Longboarders specifically have this issue, however, as I learned from my conversations, there are many, equally minute issues that students would like to communicate their issues to the police.

  • What:
      • Interviewee 3 mentioned that a service like this isn’t specific to long boarders, though it would help them. I agree that there are many issues much larger than this that should be communicated to campus police.
      • Interviewee 1 mentioned that it could be a good way of reporting crime before the police is able to notify everyone. She told me about how last semester on a Sunday morning, she was biking to The Standard when she heard gun shots coming from that direction, and campus police didn’t notify anyone until an hour later.
      • Interviewee 4 brought up a good point that the service is dependent on people wanting to report it online. He said that realistically he might check it occasionally, but he’s more likely to be lazy about posting on the site- even if he has good ideas to communicate to the police. Also, he said that if he wanted to report something, he would most likely just text in his group chat.
      • Also, in interview 4, he mentioned that this sight could easily be overrun with trolls, and that there would need to be some sort of filter and/or review process.

  • Why: Their needs are different, especially since most of the outsiders for this product would be unhelpful to society. For examples, online trolls will always exist, but have no business on a site like this.
Inside the Boundary Outside the Boundary
Who:
College students with minute issues that want to change laws
Online trolls

People who want change
Lazy people who don’t want to work to get change

People who are satisfied with their current UF experience
What:
To better communicate campus issues with campus police
To overflow campus police with issues

To shift some responsibility to campus police and student government

Why:
To improve communication with students and student government/ campus police

  1. Hey, I am glad that while you were doing your interviews you found that your original idea was the not the bigger picture that you should have been focusing on. You handled wanting ti alter your idea very well, most people would be upset by that and want to quit. I like the ideas that you propose and I think that the police need to be overrun for them to do something and maybe will also take student government of their high horse. Im just saying.
