11A- Idea Napkin
Idea: Create a portable hose for surfers to rinse sand off their boards to limit the amount of sand into the car. Most beaches have showers to rinse off at, but very few have attachments for rinsing off a board. Sand on boards is especially annoying since the wax gets warm and sand sticks to the surf wax-- a regular shower head isn't pressurized enough to get the sand off.
About me:
- My name is Andreanna Hardy, and I'm a second year general business major with a passion for nature, adventure, sustainability and surfing.
- I aspire to have a well-balanced life-- equally satisfied in my work with my family with my social life with my physical and emotional health and with my passions/ hobbies.
- If I were to start the business, it would allow me to connect my passion for surfing with my job. From watching my mom, an entrepreneur, I understand that running the business requires dedication, hard work, and time. Hopefully, I would find a way to balance my work with the rest of my life.
- Selling an beach-shower attachment with a hose and head attachment for getting sand off of waxy surfboards.
Who am I offering it too:
- Frequent surfers (surf around once/ month)
- Probably drive a bigger car and do not use surf racks on the top of their car.
- If the boards go on top of the car, they probably don't care so much about sand from the board getting into their cars.
- Old enough to drive.
- Must drive to the beach.
Why they care:
- Hosing boards off with a proper tool eliminates the amount of pesky sand in the car.
My core competencies:
- I experience the issue on hand, so I can directly relate to the problem.
- I am involved with the UF surf club, and know many students who also experience this problem on hand.
- I help run an annual surf competition with many surf-shop promoters that might be interested in selling the product in their stores.
- Surfers at the competition could use the product.
- I have connections with several surf-related companies and their representatives.
I believe these components are in harmony with one another. All of them explain holes in each other. To me, there aren't many clashing ideas. These elements fit well together.
Hey Andreanna,
ReplyDeleteThis is the first time I see your idea. I see you know a lot about your target audience and about the need, seeing as you yourself have related to the need. I don't personally surf but I can see how your need exists and could be a product opportunity. I think your post is right in every aspects, I'm just curious about the specifics of your shower attachment. Like what it would look like, how would they store it and so on. I think one cool idea would be the ability to attach it to a jug of water, just in the case that there wouldn't be a nearby beach shower. But I don't know how plausible that would be. Great work overall!
