2A- The bug list

Bug list:
  1. Lack of natural lighting that comes into my Gainesville house
    1. Why the bug exists: It’s an old Gainesville house, and a lot of the walls block the windows. There have been additions put on the house that block the old windows, which makes the house dark, and the artificial lighting is ugly.
  2. Crying babies on my flights from Cleveland to Orlando
    1. Why the bugs exist: Orlando is home to several, child-attracting amusement parks, and many children fly to Orlando for vacation with their families. Children are often tired, bored, and/ or hungry on long flights, and there is nowhere for them to go. Also, once one baby starts crying, it catalyzes others to join in.
  3. Library overdraft fees
    1. Why the bug exists: I didn’t set a reminder in my phone to return the books when I checked them out.
  4. My roommates living dirty dishes/ cups/ half eaten food in common spaces
    1. Why the bug exists: My roommates grew up with maids and are used to having their messes picked up after them. Cleaning isn’t a part of their natural routines, nor is it a desired by them to be. They understand the value of clean, but would rather things be dirty so they don’t have to do the work.
  5. The expense and inconvenience of developing disposable cameras in Gainesville
    1. Why the bug exists: Disposable camera use is outdated and unused by many, and therefore most companies that used to provide film development services have stopped. With few competitors and a niche demand, Gainesville photo labs can set prices high because they know there are few other options.
  6. When Snapchat Sportscenter puts the NFL on top plays, and they only show photos and not videos of what happened.
    1. Why the bug exists: The broadcasting companies that stream the game don’t allow Snapchat to have the rights to their content, and therefore they can’t have videos of the plays. The companies want people to pay for their sports packages and services, and not watch for free using a third party, in this case, Snapchat.
  7. How often Snapchat changes their platform for viewing stories
    1. Why the bug exists: The developers change the layout frequently in attempts to stay current.
  8. Tacky Gucci belts
    1. Why the bug exists: People want luxury items, and to display the amount of money they have. In this case, that’s above their crotch.
  9. Seeing affiliate ads on my IG timeline- like Scott Disick promoting basically a Chapstick that claims to turn brown eyes blue
    1. Why the bug exists: Companies use social media users to promote their items, in hopes that the recommendation feels authentic, in exchange for money, products, or services.
  10. The inefficiency of my blender, and how poorly it makes smoothies
    1. Why the bug exists: The blender is old, and needs to be upgraded, but I don’t want to pay for another one.
  11. Forgetting to return packages after their return policy
    1. Why the bug exists: I forget to repackage returns and ship them as soon as I’d like to return them, and tend to procrastinate.
  12. Forgetting to use good coupons before their expiration date
    1. Why the bug exists: I saw the coupons, and put them away. Out of sight out of mind… until I find them 2 late and I could have scored good deals on Ben and Jerry’s ice cream.
  13. Staining all of my white towels slightly grey because I missed a black sock in my whites load
    1. Why the bug exists: I was in a hurry and threw my things in the washing machine, and didn’t double check.
  14. Losing backs to earrings, and then not having them when you need them
    1. Why the bug exists: The backs are really small and easy to lose, especially since you are taking them on and off frequently. Also, when you buy a pair of earrings, you only get one pair.
  15. When the internet buffers while I’m watching The Bachelor
    1. Why the bug exists: My roommates and I buy cheap internet with low bandwidth.
  16. How overcrowded the gym becomes after New Years
    1. Why the bug exists: Many people make New Year's resolutions to go to the gym more often, and there are only 2 gyms on campus for students to go to.
  17. The lacking shoe selection at Dicks
    1. Why the bug exists: Companies assume that most of the shopping is done online now, and keep low inventories at brick and mortar locations.
  18. My bike lock getting stuck
    1. Why the bug exists: The inside is rusty because I leave it out in the rain.
  19. Snapchat’s poor customer service, and their lack of a customer help phone number
    1. Why the bug exists: The company tries to cut expenses and save money on customer service.
  20. Lack of parking at Publix on university
    1. Why the bug exists: There is little space to expand the parking lot, and it is a frequently visited grocery store due to its convenient location

Reflection:
Like mentioned in lecture, this activity was easy for the first 5… but after that I struggled. Society as a whole is encouraged to block out negativity, and our memory usually only records the positive moments of our day. However, as the week went on, I would log “bug” moments in my phone to record later. I appreciated this activity because it encouraged negativity in a constructive manner, and can make for a helpful tool for aspiring entrepreneurs to construct ideas for change.
